Play Pokemon Emerald as a real-time action game with Emerald Arena
How to patch your own Emerald ROM in the browser, the shortcut to your first fight, and every battle control.
The short version
Emerald Arena is a free patch by Germán Burgardt that turns Pokémon Emerald's battles into real-time action. You move, dodge and aim attacks yourself, Charizard can take off with Fly and dive back down, and catching a Pokémon means aiming and throwing the ball. Germán built it on the pokeemerald decompilation with help from AI coding agents, and tested every build in an emulator.
What you need: your own unmodified Pokémon Emerald ROM (USA or Europe) and a GBA emulator. What you get: a patched game that runs offline, plus a practice team to start fighting right away. I'm walking you through the creator's own instructions here, not a setup I've tested on my machine.
