Gemini on Windows: a useful quick-access workflow

How to check the Windows app requirements, provide the right document context and write a useful shortcut prompt.

The short version

The Windows app is useful when opening a browser keeps interrupting the task you are already doing. Start with a small document question, bring the relevant context into the conversation, and use the answer to return to your work. I would judge it by how clearly it answers that question, not by whether a floating assistant window feels futuristic.

Google's September announcement describes quick access with Alt + Space on Windows 10 and Windows 11. It also describes support for work context such as Gmail and Drive. Those connections depend on the account and permissions you actually have. A shortcut opening a conversation does not mean Gemini automatically understands every window on your screen.
