HunyuanVideo 1.5: run the 8-step photo-to-video model
Where to find the distilled model, how to compare the shape across frames, and how to check the license and hardware.
The short version
HunyuanVideo 1.5 is Tencent's open 8.3B video model. On December 5, 2025 the team released a step-distilled 480p image-to-video model that makes a clip in 8 or 12 steps (recommended) instead of the regular model's 50. You turn it on with one flag, --enable_step_distill. You can try 4 steps for more speed with slightly lower quality.
This guide shows you where the distilled model lives, how to run the same photo at 8 and 12 steps, how to check that the object keeps its shape across frames, and what the license and hardware ask of you. I built it from the official README, model card and license; I have not run the model myself, so the 75% speedup below is Tencent's RTX 4090 benchmark, not my measurement.
