LibreChat: steer or stop an AI agent while it's working

How to steer or stop the agent, a small format change to try it on, and what to check about the beta features and provider costs.

The short version

LibreChat is an open source, self-hosted chat app for many model providers. Version 0.8.8 (changelog dated September 30, 2026, published on GitHub as a pre-release) added agent control: you can steer an agent while it is still working, queue a message for when it finishes, interrupt it, answer its questions and approve tool calls.

This guide shows how to steer or stop a run, a small format change test to try it on, and what to check about the beta status and provider costs. I read the official changelog, pull requests and docs for this; I have not run these steps myself.
