Patchy: edit a layered PSD and check the round trip

How to open a Photoshop file safely, make a reversible layer edit, and save and reopen the result.

The short version

I would start with a duplicate Photoshop file in the browser, then decide whether I need the desktop build. Patchy is a free MIT image editor focused on editable PSD compatibility. It runs on Windows, Apple Silicon macOS, Linux and locally in the browser. This guide follows current official documentation; I haven't independently verified Photoshop round-trip parity.
