SAM 3.1: track many objects in video and check the masks

What changed in 3.1, how to set up a multi-object clip, and how to check the masks when two objects cross.

The short version

I use this guide to understand the tracking update, prepare a multi-object test, and check masks through an overlap. SAM 3 finds, masks and tracks objects in images and video from a short text phrase or an example. SAM 3.1 adds Object Multiplex, which groups tracked objects so they share computation and memory. Meta reports about a 7x speedup at 128 objects on a single H100, compared with the November 2025 SAM 3 release.

I checked the official instructions and license, but I have not run this model myself yet, so the mug test below is a plan for your own clip, not a result.
