AI and robots: read task exposure without turning it into a jobs forecast

How to read the study's task categories, separate exposure from replacement and check the cost assumptions behind the headline.

The short version

A task becoming technically exposed to AI is different from a job disappearing. A job contains multiple tasks, and real deployment also depends on cost, environment, reliability, regulation and human responsibility.

Anthropic's September 30 study reports a work-time-weighted exposure estimate of 81 percent for language models or robots combined. It is not an estimate that robots alone will replace 81 percent of jobs. The study separately estimates robot exposure across some circumstances at 34 percent of work time and currently cost-competitive robotic work at about 0.3 percent.

This guide is a reading and workplace worksheet. It does not validate the study's estimates through an independent empirical replication.
