SynthID Bio: see where the protein watermark goes and how it is detected
Where the mark goes, how they detect it, and what the marked proteins could still do.
The short version
SynthID Bio is Google DeepMind's watermark for AI-designed proteins. One version marks the sequence as ProteinMPNN generates it; the other is a fine-tuned AlphaFold 3 that marks the predicted 3D structure. DeepMind released the code, the detection scores and the lab binding data, so you can check the evidence on a laptop with no lab work. I've read the blog, the paper page and the repo; I haven't rerun their experiments.
