Heretic: install it, run your first model, and the Heretic models worth downloading
How to install Heretic, run it on your first model, and which Heretic models to download.
The short version
Heretic is a free, open source tool that removes the refusal behavior from open AI models. You give it a model from Hugging Face, it finds the direction inside the model that makes it refuse, and it cuts that direction out of the weights. There's no retraining. It tunes itself, so the model stops refusing while staying as close as possible to the original.
•What you need: Python 3.10 or later, PyTorch 2.2 or later, and an NVIDIA graphics card with enough memory for the model you pick.
•What you get: a new copy of the model that answers what the original refused. You can save it, upload it to Hugging Face or chat with it straight away.
